Hunger

Eating is going fairly well this week. Dinner on Wednesday was lovely, Parsnip Soup and then Steak and Frites. I did leave most of the chips as I just wasn't hungry - a slightly bizarre feeling for me. Yesterday I struggled a bit with feeling hungry all day, but as I was out for dinner last night I had to stay strong. What was most unhelpful was the numerous boxes of doughnuts on the desk behind me, I had to practically run past them every time I went for a cuppa in case I inhaled one without realising. A very helpful colleague ate 5 of them though so that was very kind of him. I'd love to call him a fat porker but there's not an ounce on him. How unfair.

I went out for a wander during lunch to try and forget how hungry I was feeling - however the high street from my office goes something like this:

Leave office, immediately walk past all you can eat Chinese Buffet Restaurant. Smell of chinese is overwhelming and makes ones mouth water. Continue a little further and walk past Greggs, smell of pasties is overwhelming and makes ones mouth water. Walk another 30 seconds and pass Burger King, smell of Burgers is overwhelming and makes ones mouth water. Walk another minute and pass a Fish and Chip shop - well you get the idea.... It's like a walk of torture every lunchtime.

Fortunately I managed to resist all this devil food and console myself with a 2 point bag of Hula Hoops. I drank so much blooming water yesterday in an attempt to fill myself up, I spent the rest of the afternoon walking back and forth to the loo. Exercise of sorts I guess.

Todat I've woken up feeling rubbish - almost like I am hungover but I am still off the booze. My head hurts and I ache and just generally feel bleurgh. I am resolutely refusing to believe I am coming down with the dreaded man flu that my entire office is suffering from, but I am going to have a fairly early night and dose up on the Vitamin C in an attempt to stave off any dreaded germs. I am still planning to go spinning after a little snooze... is that perhaps dangerous??

Tomorrow we're off to London again for afternoon tea and then to see Cirque Du Soleils Varekai at the Royal Albert Hall. I almost feel cultured.

Have a good weekend one and all!

WI Wednesday

Pleased to report a 2.5lb loss this week. I was secretly hoping for a little bit more since no alcohol has passed my lips for weeks (alright about 10 days) and I had managed to convince myself that my whole reason for being fat was down to the fact that I am a booze hound. It's obviously helped as 2.5 is a fairly decent loss given no form of movement has taken place since approximately early December. This has been brought home to me by the fact that my online gym account is no longer working - I've clearly been removed due to weeks of inactivity. That's fairly shameful.

Last night I had planned to go to the gym, clearly by the use of the word 'had', you realise I managed to find excuse number 1024 not to go. Obviously, I 'had' to instead go and buy birthday presents for 2 friends kids as I am meeting them both tomorrow night for dinner. Clearly this was a pressing requirement and not something I could have done during lunch hour.... Note the sarcasm in my tone here, I am bordering on the ridiculous. I am fighting a losing battle with myself to move more.

Today could be tricky. Breakfast and Lunch are planned and coming in at 12 points in total, but we are off to Malmaison tonight for dinner (special offer on not a special occasion). I guess I'll just have to try and chose wisely instead of my usual Wednesday "Sod it" attitude. I've called the gym and booked myself in for Spinning on Friday (at least they still think I'm a member even if my online account is punishing me), that is really going to hurt.

3 lbs still to lose to get myself back to my pre Xmas lowest. I managed to completely miscalculate and think it was only 2 and therefore doable this week. So 45.5 lbs down, 20 million still to go. I might end up weighing in naked next week since there was little else I could have removed today to assist. People at work must think I am mental turning up to work in flimsy dresses every Wednesday when its minus 20 outside.

Weekend

Why do weekends go by so quickly? I hate that Monday morning feeling when you can't just roll back over and get back to sleep as you have to go out and earn a living. This morning was particularly difficult as Matt decided he was going to work from bed - see he's the boss so he can just decide to stay at home, I don't have that luxury. Harumph.

The weekend was good, a little hectic but I seem to have come out of the other end pretty unscathed.

Friday night my parents arrived. We ended off at the local pub where I chose.... a salad of all things. I also opted not to drink as I am still suffering flashbacks from the Hangover from Hell. This is pretty impressive for me on Friday as I usually neck alcohol like its about to be banned.

Saturday I slept til 10am - only to wake up and discover my Dad hadn't been well all night so there was a bit of panic surrounding that. Normally I'd have been up all night if I heard people wandering about, but I've taken to sleeping with ear plugs since my boyfriend snores like a truffle pig, so I was completely oblivious to what was going on. Now given I come from a family of hypochondriacs, I wasn't too worried (my little sister once spent a week in hospital with suspected appendicitis which turned out to be trapped wind) but my dad was feeling fairly sorry for himself so I had to show some concern. Turns out he suspected he was having a heart attack, but it would appear to have just been a fairly bad bout of Heartburn. Panic over. And perhaps a realisation from him he needs to be a little bit healthier.

Once we managed to get ourselves ready, we drove over to Hammersmith to park up and head into London for a little wander around Covent Garden. I stuck to mainly sensible choices with food - a Pret Tapas Salad for lunch and Gnochi with Spinach and Mushrooms for dinner. Not bad going as everyone else was having Fish and Chips or other such tasty options (apart from my dad who was still feeling a bit sorry for himself and had an omlette). Billy Connolly was hilarious, much funnier than anticipated and my Dad had a good laugh (Heartburn now completely forgotten) so that was the main thing given it was his Xmas present from me.

My parents left yesterday morning and headed up to Bicester on the way home as my mother loves to shop - and in her words "It would be a shame not to pop in since we are so close". Matt and I were invited over to my friend Caroline's for lunch in Twickenham. They are in the midst of having a new kitchen fitted so she had put on massive platters of bread, cheese and meats which is my idea of heaven - but somewhat hellish when trying to stick to points! I was the designated driver since I am still struggling to find an alcoholic drink that doesn't make me gag - so I guess that was my saving grace. I did completely overindulge on Parma Ham, Chorizo, Brie, Salami and Stilton with Apricots all served up with Tiger Bread and butter. I am salivating just thinking about it! Anyway, I reckon I was about 6 points over for yesterday, but I can cope with that.

Matt was shoe faced, as were Alex and Rory - all of whom I had the pleasure of driving home. Why do drunk people feel the need to a) shout and b) say the same thing over and over and over again? I think I'd have no friends if I was tee total as drunk friends can be a little bit annoying!

Today should be a good day. I've had Porridge with skimmed milk and sultanas for breakfast. Lunch is an Innocent Veg Pot - now these are brilliant if you are struggling for something quick, plus you get 3 of your 5 a day. I urge you to try them, not cheap at £3 ish, but worth it every now and then. Dinner is already prepared - Chicken Fajita Stack, which I have entrusted Matt to pop into the oven when I am on my way home (so that won't happen clearly).

I am hoping my lack of alcohol over the weekend will be beneficial to me on Wednesday and I should see a good result on the scales. Fingers crossed!

And the Award goes to....

Me! I've just received a beautiful blogger award from Heather, thank you very much!

Check her out if you get chance. So now I need to share 7 things about me that you may not already know. Oh dear, this is where I realise I am actually a bit of a dullard.....

1) I'm a Geordie living down South (ok so you know that as it says it over there ----->). I moved away from the North East when I was 18, but I still love going home and I love how friendly the North is compared to the South.

2) I have a completely irrational fear of windmills. Don't ask me why, but the mere sight of a windmill makes me break out in a sweat. That makes trips to the Netherlands somewhat fun.

3) I am allergic to Shellfish (a delightful affliction inherited from my Dad). It took years of me cursing dodgy mussels to actually realise that that they couldn't all be dodgy and perhaps they didn't particularly agree with me.

4) I lived in Prague for 2.5 years from 2004 - 2006 and the only Czech I can understand revolves around menus (You can see what my priorities have always been!).

5) I hate birds. I think it comes from years of trips to Trafalgar Square as a kid and being given bird seed to feed the Rats with Wings (sorry, pigeons). I once nearly broke my arm trying to escape a sparrow that had made its way into our kitchen at Uni.

6) My claim to fame is that I once spent a night in a hotel bar getting rather drunk with Ant and Dec. Just them and me and a friend. It was one of the funniest nights of my life and I still have the signed Becks bottles they gave me. (Look at me name dropping, I am soooo showbiz!)

7) I have managed to drink a yard of ale in 21 seconds. Classy bird me.

So now I need to pass this on to 7 bloggers as well. This will be hard as I love all the blogs I follow but here goes:

1) Sue at Losing a Little Bit of me. I love her honesty and humour and I can relate to pretty much everything she says!

2) Jamframity at Shrinking Thinking. Inspirational and funny.

3) Peridot at A Weigh to Go.... I love her writing style and she cracks me up.

4) Tina at Tina's Journey - She has lost soooo much weight and really inspires me.

5) Karon at Twinkles Trek - Another inspiration - she's lost loads of weight and also now runs the NYNY challenge which I am part of.

6) Sophie at Sophies on a Diet - I can totally relate to her posts.

7) Then I am stuck, because there are so many other brilliant blogs out there that I love to read, so this last one goes to Lorr74, GlasgowGallah, Lakeland Jo, The Tart Who travels, Emily, Mrs Shilts, Mandy, Clare and Claire.

I've probably missed loads more of my favourites so apologies.

Parent and Comedian feast

So last night was Jimmy Carr/ Tapas night. I was very mindful of what I ate after the gain of fairly large proportions. It's hard to point tapas as I can never remember everything we had, but I think I'm about 4 points over for yesterday. Really not the end of the world given it was WI day so I'm fairly happy with that.

Jimmy Carr was hilarious, we were sat 4 rows from the front which made a big difference, when we saw Michael McIntyre we watched the whole thing on the screen as we were sooo far away. Anyway, a good time was had by all. Nothing like a bit of laughter to give you that feel good factor.

Today is going surprisingly well on the food front. I had a 6am start for work today, which means working from home. Bearing in mind that I've not done any proper food shopping since mid December, there's not much to tempt me off the straight and narrow. 2 crumpets rescued from the freezer for breakfast and a bowl of cherry tomatoes (stolen from my mothers fridge at the weekend) for lunch, microwaved with a bit of balsamic vinegar and salt. Hmmmmm, not exactly filling but it was either that or a some frozen profiteroles I discovered in the freezer as well (along with a bottle of Gin, a few stray peas and an ice pack for reducing swelling).

Finishing work early means I've been more productive than usual. I've cleaned the flat from top to bottom - does that count as exercise? I've also managed to get myself to the supermarket so we are now fully stocked. No excuses this week!

The parentals are down tomorrow, its a bit of a feast on that front at the moment. I don't see them for months usually and this will be the 3rd time in 4 weeks. I got tickets for Christmas for my Dad for Billy Connolly so we're off there on Saturday - seems I am having a feast on the comedians front as well of late. We'll probably spend the day in London beforehand so I'm going to investigate a few diet friendly options for lunch. I want that 5 pounds off sharpish.

Still off the booze which isn't really a struggle. I just have to remember throwing up Pepsi Max through my nose on Sunday and I'm quite keen not to have a repeat hangover any time soon. (Sorry if that's too much info!)

Right then, I am off to have a slice of toast given I've got 22 points still to play with. How very decadent of me!

Official WI

Finally I made it :) I am 5 pounds up from where I was before Xmas (16th December) which is not ideal, but not the end of the world either I guess. My WW scales have me the same weight as my Leaders so I've lost a pound since last Friday. I'm happy enough with that.

The class had been cancelled the past 2 weeks because of the snow so it was manic today full of new people joining. I'm slightly superstitious and always try and use the scales on the left hand side of the desk (I've only ever had gains when I use the right hand ones!) but there was a big queue for those today as the leader was manning them so I had to bite the bullet and take what I could get. Anyway, I digress... I finally feel back on track now that I know where I am and I realise how easily I can put weight on. Quite scary really.

Off to see Jimmy Carr tonight so meeting some friends first at La Tasca for dinner. I love Tapas, but do find it a bit hard to reign myself in on the amount I eat. Will have to be as good as possible. I am still off the booze so that will assist in keeping the points down. Back to the gym tomorrow as well. That is going to hurt.

Another day, another travel disaster

I seem to be jinxed at the moment with this travel malarkey. We flew back from Newcastle this morning and I was expecting to be the office by 10am (which is fine as I can start any time before 10) but the weather in Newcastle had other plans - which saw me still sat on the runway in Newcastle i.e. around 300 miles away from work at 10am. Bloody Fog! I couldn't even ring my boss as we had taxied out so they had that stupid no phones rule, cue a lot of grovelling once we did eventually land.

Of course that wasn't then end of it - we landed on a remote stand and then had to be bused back to the terminal - frustratingly taking us past the car park we then had to get back to. Then of course we couldn't get out of the car park as it kept saying we owed £65. This lead to me and Matt hollering at each other before I eventually stomped off to the Customer Services office with confirmation of pre payment in hand. I then had to endure the ever so helpeful assistant on the phone for 10 minutes to a loved one before he even realised I was there. You can imagine I was most cheerful by the time I eventually made it shame faced into the office at 1pm! Ho Hum.

Anyway, now that's off my chest I can get back to the matter in hand - weight loss. After my near alcohol poisoning on Saturday/ Sunday I have been fairly good on the food front. Mainly because my stomach hasn't been overly happy with me so I've not managed to eat much at all. I've still not gotten back into the habit of pointing everything though, which is something I really need to sort. Not having had a proper WI for weeks has really thrown me off kilter. I clearly need to go to class to keep myself on track.

We've got heavy snow forecast for tomorrow (what is it with Wednesday's down here??), but I will be braving whatever the weather throws at me so I can make it to WW for the first time since mid December. I will have a little jump on my new scales in the morning so I can get an idea of how close they are to my leaders. I am not overly expecting good things but at least I am back on the right track. Alcohol is off limits for the forseeable future and I am actually looking forward to stocking up on fresh fruit and veg - it's been too long.

Right then, I had better actually crack on and do some work since I've only been here for an hour or so. Bad Linz.

How to come in really under points....

.... get very, very drunk on Saturday night and be completely incapable of eating anything until 7pm on Sunday night! I can't remember the last time I felt so ill by poisoning myself.

Yesterday was a fairly good day, had a massage in the morning courtesy of my mother who has really sorted out my back. Went down to my sisters for a while to see my nieces and fix a laptop my sister had managed to infect with some killer virus. Points wise I was fairly restrained..... that was until I became some sort of demon booze hound!

We went to the Dogs in Newcastle with my parents and both my sisters and their other halves. I had a few bets and managed to break even. I think the trouble began when we ended up back at my sisters house playing Just Dance on the Wii. Hilarious and much hard work so a bit of exercise I guess. I always thought I was a bit of a groover but I clearly have the rhythm of a dead fish as I kept coming last! Turns out the Vodkas my dear brother in law was pouring for me were on the hefty side - hence my feeling of complete and utter illness all day.

Ah well, you live and learn.... hopefully!

Thanks all for your comments on my last post and Beakerella very glad to have inspired you - I hope I don't inspire you today to poison yourself with vodka :)

Kick up the jacksy received

Well after my failed attempts at getting to a WW meeting, I bought myself some WW scales yesterday since they were half price in Sainsburys. Looks like I have put on around 6 pounds since my last 'official' Weigh In. I know it's not going to be exact since it's different scales and a different day of the week, but it's at least an idea of what damage has been done. So I am now full of renewed enthusiasm to shift the blubber.

Dinner last night was lovely, if you've got a slow cooker, you have to try that Lamb Chop Kleftiko recipe - or even if you don't, try it in the oven. Tis lush. I added in a spoonful of gravy granules at the end to thicken it up a bit. I am also a new convert to Kale. Delicious - so much so that for lunch today I am having Kale with Pine nuts and a rasher of bacon all sauteed in a sachet of Butter Buds. I am so healthy it's untrue.... ok well perhaps not, but it's a nice change.

I managed 31 minutes on the Wii Fit last night (that extra 1 minute makes all the difference) which I guess is a good start at getting me back into some form of movement. Must get back to the gym next week once the snow has gone, I'll have no excuses!

We're off up North tonight to the parentals as West Brom play Newcastle on Monday and Matt is desperate to see his beloved Baggies play at St. James's Park. Fingers crossed there are no major weather issues to disrupt our travel. I am slightly nervous given my last attempt at getting anywhere on a plane.

Hopefully I can have a fairly healthy weekend, my mother knows I am forever on a diet so she usually buys my all sorts of low fat treats. I also imagine I will spend a bit of time running around after my nieces so that is some exercise of sorts.

Right then, I am off to eat my Kale. Have a good weekend y'all!

Frustration

The worst possible time to discover you have a hole in your wellies is when you are calf deep in a muddy, slushy puddle. And what makes that even more frustrating is that you are in this bloody puddle as you have trekked to another WW class in 4 inches of snow, only to discover that the class is closed due to said snow. Harumph. I am not destined to WI this week.

Last night ended up another boozy affair (do you sense a theme here?) as Matt decided we should go out for dinner. Wednesday used to always be our 'date' nights, but since he has been working like crazy of late, they have somewhat dwindled. Off we skidded to Mya LaCarte which does the best food. 3 courses plus much prosecco, amaretto and port later, we were home. I can't overly point last night but I am definitely over, but no stress really as I've a full week to make up for it.

I've had crumpets for breakfast, I've a Waitrose reduced Fat Macaroni Cheese for lunch and I've popped this little beauty (Lamb Chop Kleftiko) in the slow cooker for tonight minus the olive oil. That leaves me with 6 points to play with. So far so good.

After 20 minutes of trying and wanting to kill numerous people who should not be allowed driving licences, I managed to get the car out of the street this morning so I have driven into the office for the first time in nearly 4 weeks. If I even see the slightest snow flake, I am outta here like a shot.

More snow = No WI!

I've woken up this morning to another 4 inches of snow.

It's getting beyond a joke now. I got myself ready and thought I'd go into the office as I desperately wanted to WI today. Car is going nowhere, after a few pirouttes and triple salkos, I made it to the train station. Trains cancelled. Gah!

So I am back home in the warmth, ever so slightly frustrated that it's now 4 weeks since I last got weighed and I have no idea of the damage I have done of late. There is a class near me tonight so I will try and get to that, it's about 1.5 miles away so if I stick my wellies on I should be able to trudge there.

Last night I ended up drinking cocktails in TGI Friday's which was slightly unexpected for a Tuesday night. I needed to get out of the flat given I'd been stuck in all day, but perhaps a bit of exercise might have been more in order than drinking Ultimate Cocktails?! Although I did walk there which is just over a mile so thats something I guess? Plus the Ultimate Cocktail glasses are fairly heavy so that was a workout for my bingo wings.... Clutching at straws here....

I've just stumbled across this page on the BBC website - maybe I don't need to worry too much after all :)

Seriously though, I am determined to make this week a good one. We are now thankfully out of chocolate so no more snaffling horrible chocs everytime I open the fridge. I'm going to do a bit more Wii Fit this afternoon (which will also give me an idea of my weight I guess) and try and eat healthily from the remains of our fridge. Wish me luck!

Monday, 11 January 2010

Slight improvement.

Well so far so good - in so far as I have actually tracked what I have eaten today. I've even planned what I will have for dinner and I intend to stick to it and avoid the chocolates (that I don't even like) even when they are incessantly calling my name from the fridge... I ate an orange cream yesterday and I flipping hate orange creams with a passion. Big fat pig.

Today I made it into the office for the first time since my mammoth journey home on the 21st December, we had more snow over night so I took one look at my car and headed onto the train station. It took me forever to get there as I am sick of falling over so I am walking at a snails pace. Seriously, old people were practically barging me out of the way to get past. Still, I got there in one piece, I just hope my journey home is as uneventful. The train station was chaos and I had to queue for over 30 mins just to buy a ticket. Good old Blighty. We really cope well with a bit of adverse weather.

I have ordered myself some grippers for my boots on the advice of Beakerella - if nothing else it will cause the now to disappear now I am actually getting myself prepared. We have heavy snow forecast for tomorrow night which is not good. I need to make it to WI on Wednesday or I will go completely off the rails! I'll have to drag myself somewhere else for a WI if we are snowed in as it will have been 4 weeks since my last one. That's seriously not ideal. I saw some WW scales half price today in Sainsburys so I may have to invest in some for times like these.

Right then, I am rambling. I am off to face the mean streets of Berkshire.

Still struggling

I'm still struggling to get back in control. I really need to get myself to a WI this week so I can get the shock I need and kick me back into action. The weather and inability to get out and do stuff is also leading to a bit of cabin fever and I am wandering into the kitchen a bit too much to try and break the boredom.

On Friday I ended up working 12 hours (albeit from the comfort of my living room) which put me in a pretty bad mood. So despite being resolute that Iwasn't going to drink, I managed to polish off my fair share of vodka. We also ended up going for Thai, so going over points was pretty much a given. Still it was a good night with friends so I guess that's the most important thing. I did manage to slip over twice on my way to the pub, it was only a matter of time, I can barely stay upright in normal conditions.

Yesterday we went off to rescue my car which has been abandoned since the 22nd December. 2 very kind men had to push Matt's car out of the snow as we weren't getting anywhere fast. I was expecting my car to be either gone or refusing to start, but thankfully neither worries materialised. I've managed to park it fairly near to the flat upon returning, but the roads around here are pretty treacherous still. My journey wasn't helped by all sorts of idiots standing around the roads chatting and wandering in front of my car as I was crawling down a very snowy road at a snails pace. Please just get out of the road when I am clearly in charge of a lethal weapon over which I have minimal control when there is 2 foot of snow beneath my wheels. Harumph.

Food yesterday was still pretty bad. I had a massive steak for dinner which was delicious, but about 3 times the size I either needed or should have eaten. I also managed to demolish a load of chocolates - and I don't even bloody like chocolate!! I also managed to fall over again and twist my rotten ankle a bit - nowhere near as bad as last time but its a bit swollen and sore.

Today has been a bit better, I managed 30 mins on the Wii fit which had me panting like dying dog. I took it easy on account of the ankle but I felt the need to do something. According to the body test, my weight hasn't changed since I was last on there (which was 45 days ago!!) so by that reckoning I've probably gained around 6 pounds since my last weigh in. I guess I will know for definite on Wednesday.

I'm going to attempt to make it into the office tomorrow and then head over to Richmond to see the osteopath and meet the girls for dinner after work. I am hoping that there will be no more snow so I can actually get there and back without any massive delays - most of my travel of late has been hideous so I am not overly hopeful.

So here's hoping for a better day tomorrow. One step at a time I guess.

Where is that bloody wagon?

Getting back on track is proving a little bit more difficult than anticipated. I've gotten a bit too used to not really thinking about what goes in my mouth - which resulted in an 11 point defecit yesterday. Not exactly a winning start. I blame Costa coffee.... please don't offer me cream and marshmallows on my skinny hot chocolate as my will power is not exactly in tact and I will say "oh Yes Please". Eejit.

Today has been a bit better and at least I am pointing food before I shovel it down my neck, but I still reckon I'll end up slightly over once again. The only saving grace is trudging up and down the hill as it's impossible to drive anywhere so at least I am getting a bit of exercise in - albeit minimal.

Off to the pub tonight to watch the footy but I'm a bit sick of alcohol to be honest so I'll probably stick to the soft stuff. Watch me end up rolling home much later :)

I think I may need to do my food diary next week to try and give myself a huge boot up the jacksy.

I'm back!

Happy New Year people! I hope you all had a brilliant Christmas and New Year. Mine was lovely and it was lovely to have time off work and just relax. New Year in Tenerife was lovely, very hot and sunny and really good fun. I've not thought about WW or losing weight however for nearly 2 weeks. Gulp. I think I've possibly gained about 5 or 6 pounds, but I am not too concerned. I am determined this year will be a good one.

I was due at WI yesterday, but thanks to the great British weather, I ended up with a 36 hour journey home from Tenerife and only managed to get back to the flat at 3:30am this morning having left the villa in Tenerife on Tuesday afternoon. Bang goes my feeling of relaxation! We took off from Tenerife but couldn't land in Gatwick so ended up in Paris. 22 hours later we left Paris, spent 3 hours sitting on the runway at Gatwick once we landed and then had to dig the car out of the car park. Still I am home now! I've had 6 hours sleep in the last 48 hours so I am not exactly feeling the greatest, but I am just happy to be home and not planning to move too far for the next few days!

I've managed to get a few supplies in as I am working from home (my car is going nowhere!) but the shops are very bare and short of sledging my way into town, it's a struggle to carry much home. I just had a right workout trying to get up here with 2 bags of shopping!

So, I won't find out until next Wednesday how much damage I did while I was away on a diet that consisted of bread, cheese, meat and wine but I can hopefully shift a few pounds if I am good until then. Fingers crossed :)
